You may not understand it, but we care for you; you are humanity's child.
Humanity has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and yet only in the last few centuries have we begun to realize that there is something very wrong with us. People are generally mean, selfish creatures who do not care for each other's well-being and often cause pain without remorse.
In the past, human society has been unable or unwilling to address these issues. As a result of our inability to handle ourselves in a civilized manner, we have caused numerous problems on our planet and continue to do so. We exhaust resources faster than they can be replenished; we pollute the air and water with carbon emissions; we are constantly at war with each other over various religious and political beliefs.
We have become a race of self-destructive machines, set on our own destruction. It is no surprise that there are so many people who complain about the state of humanity now.
To be fair, some humans do try to make the world a better place. However, these efforts are often in vain because they are not supported by most other humans.
There are some people who say that we should not be so pessimistic about human society. Humans have done a lot of good things, they argue, and it is still possible for them to do more. I don't see such optimism as justified.
The only reason why people think that we are not a race of self-destructive machines is because they have not yet looked at humanity from the outside. You see, when you observe human society as an outsider, it becomes very clear how fragile our system really is.
