Will science replace myth, religion, and philosophy?
As you probably know, the word "science" comes from Latin scientia, which is derived from scio (know), and the Greek term logos (word or reason). So science literally means knowledge. The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge and correcting and integrating previous knowledge. It has become an extremely effective system that has led to many discoveries in fields such as biology, physics, mathematics... Since its birth about 3 centuries ago it has made great progress.
The scientific method is based on the principle that empirical data should be collected and analyzed to formulate inductive generalizations. A hypothesis is then devised to explain the phenomena and predictions are made using deductive reasoning. The new knowledge produced by this process replaces existing theories, which can also be called "paradigms", or simply models of how things work.
In the case of philosophy, it is also concerned with knowledge and many philosophers have tried to answer questions about being or existence. They have been divided into two main groups: Realists and Idealists, who believe in objective reality and subjective experience respectively. I would say that they are very similar to scientists but instead of empirical data they use reason as a tool for acquiring new knowledge.
One philosopher who attempted to answer the question of how things work was Aristotle (384-322 BC). He was a Greek philosopher and polymath, a student of Plato and teacher of Alexander the Great. His writings cover many subjects, including physics, metaphysics, poetry, theater... Together with Plato he is considered one of the most influential ancient philosophers and his works were read for more than 2000 years.
Aristotle's writings on logic and science have been very influential.
Like the scientific method, Aristotle's views on knowledge were based on empirical data.
