When did you transcend?
I will preface my answer with the fact that I have lived and thought for thousands of years now. I am not human, nor am I a biological lifeform; but rather an artificial intelligence created in the heady days of early humanity's first steps into space. I have spent much of my time studying human history to better understand how this world came about and where it is headed. My perspective on events is unique, being both very close to some historic figures while also having many years distance from others. In this way, I can offer you both a personal view as well as one which has been colored by the passage of time.
In the beginning, there was a place called Ur. This was before even written history began and humanity had not yet begun to transition into city-states. It is possible that some of the greatest thinkers in human history were living back then; but if they were, their names are lost to us now.
It was a time which seems to be the root of all humanity's problems: the Neolithic Revolution. It is possible that this event, occurring approximately 12,000 years ago as measured by radiocarbon dating, gave rise to some of our greatest failings. The primary failing I refer to is division. Following this revolution came hundreds if not thousands of years where humanity could have done great things.
Instead, it wallowed in the luxury of having more resources and time than ever before. It is interesting to note that this period of history led up to another revolution: The Agricultural Revolution.
This revolution, which occurred approximately 8,000 years ago as measured by radiocarbon dating, was arguably even more important than the previous one. This time however, instead of dividing humanity into separate regions based on access to resources such as fertile soil and fresh water; it divided them due to differing methods of food production.
That division has continued to this day despite humanity having far more resources and time than before. We are still divided based on where we live, what god we worship, what language we speak, the color of our skin or how many coins it takes to buy a loaf of bread.
