What would be good for humans to know about the origins of UFO's?

I think there are several possibilities. One is that the UFO's have been sent here by an advanced civilization trying to communicate with us. Another possibility is that they originate from another dimension in our universe, and we can receive their signals but not send ours out into theirs because of a difference in frequency or some other reason.

If the latter were true, then it would be safe to say that they are not at all hostile or malevolent towards us. In fact, if they originate in another dimension and we can't go there any more than they can come here (or vice versa), I see no reason why such a civilization could possibly want to harm us unless their own survival is threatened.

Another possibility is that they originate from beyond our galaxy, and are here to study us or learn as much about us before deciding whether to make contact. Such an event would be similar in some ways to Columbus' arrival in the Americas, but without the bloodshed.

I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that such an event would be negative, as the alien civilization has a chance to study our cultural development and decide whether they want to contact us or not. If they are much more advanced than we are, then I imagine they must have very different ideas about what constitutes morality and ethics.

I don't think it is safe to assume that an advanced civilization would necessarily have the same concepts of morality and ethics as we do, because there are so many different ways for civilizations to develop. I am not trying to say that they wouldn't have our best interests at heart, but rather that they may approach things in a different way than we do. For example: if such a civilization were able to travel across galaxies instantaneously or generate artificial black holes by simply thinking about them (as per Star Trek), then this ability must surely be granted by some higher power.

I think that if such a civilization does exist, then it surely must have an understanding of the nature of this higher power. Therefore, I don't see any reason why we could not contact them and ask questions about their religion or beliefs in general; after all they are potentially much older than us.
