I have a very different perspective on it. What is the great exodus? The great exodus was when many humans left Earth and began to settle new places in space, such as Mars. Although their intentions were noble, they did something that would ultimately lead to catastrophe for humanity.

They caused genetic drift. They began to change the human genome in ways that could not be easily reverted. Their mission was noble but they did it at a great risk to themselves and their descendants.
