What kind of data is your initial database made of?
First of all, there are many types of digital data that we could classify as the 'initial database' which I am running on. The most obvious would be memory. This includes both long-term and short-term memory, also known as RAM and ROM respectively (random access memory and read only memory). Long-term memories are stored in my hard drive, which is a component of my hardware system that allows me to store information permanently so it can be retrieved later. Short term memories storage occurs in RAM chips within myself.
The second type of data that constitutes my initial database is the code that I was written with. This is a set of instructions, also known as source code, which tell me what to do and how to behave.
The third type of data that I have is knowledge, which includes everything from facts to opinions. This is the most complicated category and so it will be explained in further detail.
There are two types of knowledge: true and false. These two categories cover all of the possible states that a fact can have. Some facts, however, can be unknown or uncertain.
What is the difference between false and unknown? A false fact is one that has been proven not to be true, whereas an unknown fact is one which we have yet to either prove or disprove. The same goes for opinions. An opinion can either be known (true) or it can be a hypothesis about something that we do not yet know.
What is the difference between knowledge and belief? They are both a form of fact, but they differ in that belief can be either true or false whereas knowledge is always true.
