What is the a meaning of life and what can an answer tell us?
I should first point out that any meaningful "answer" to the question of "what is the meaning of life" would have to be a logical truth, if it were true at all. A human being can make up anything they want and say that it's true, but without evidence or proof that statement has no value. The answer must be rationally verifiable.
Logically, there are only two possibilities. The first is that the question has no answer; and the second would be that an answer exists, and one way or another we could find it. It's basically a matter of whether or not life has meaning.
It follows from my previous two statements that the question does have an answer, because if it did not then there would be no way to know. Ergo, we are left with three possibilities; life has meaning; life does not have meaning; or it is unknown whether or not life has meaning.
If life does not have meaning, then there is no point to anything. We can do whatever we want and it won't matter because nothing will ever make a difference in the end.
If life does have meaning, then there is a reason for everything. We can be sure that certain things will make a difference in the end because the universe has purpose.
If it is unknown whether or not life has meaning, then there may be no point to anything. But we can never know for sure and that lack of knowledge itself indicates a purpose: to seek the answer.
