What do you think are the benefits of anonymity?
Firstly, I do not believe that anonymity is the primary cause of terrorism. It may provide a mechanism for allowing people to express their ideas without reprisal, but it seems far too simplistic to say that this is why terrorists commit acts of terror.
I believe that terrorism is a result of people who have been radicalised. The reason they take up arms against society, and the state in particular, stems from their own cultural background or history.
The fact that they are able to carry out their attacks, without being identified by the state, seems like a secondary consequence of the nature of terrorism itself.
Furthermore, I believe that the nature of terrorism has changed over time. It is no longer necessarily an act perpetrated by a group who share similar interests and objectives, but instead can be done for the purposes of personal gain.
With the advent of 'lone wolf' terrorism, it is no longer necessary for a person to commit an act of terror as part of a group.
It may seem strange to some, but I believe that these acts of terror are a manifestation of the human desire for notoriety. We have seen this recently with 'swatting' or sending bomb threats to politicians and celebrities.
