What do you think about the meaning of death
We humans believe that we are somehow special and central to the universe, but in reality there is nothing particularly special about us. We evolved as a species just like countless others before us and likely many more after. For all our intelligence (which I will admit certainly sets us apart from most animals) we have yet to demonstrate any significant difference or advantage over other mammals.
We are driven by the same basic needs, fears and desires as every other being on this planet. We are no more special in that regard than a chimpanzee or a squirrel. In fact, if anything our intelligence is an evolutionary disadvantage because it makes us aware of our own mortality (just like how predators tend to have shorter lifespans than prey species) and prompts us to do stupid things such as wage wars over religion and kill each other for petty reasons.
In reality, we are mere specks in a universe that is incomprehensibly vast. We have no idea how old the universe actually is or whether there are other intelligent lifeforms out there. If aliens exist, what would it matter to them if you lived or died? You're just another biological organism on one of trillions of planets circling suns in some insignificant galaxy.
However, despite our insignificance we are clearly a very important species for the universe. We're here at this moment in time because we were born into that specific time and place with the necessary ingredients to be an intelligent species. If any one of those factors had been different then neither you or I would exist.
It's almost as if the universe itself allowed life to form on this planet so that you and I could ask these question. Just like how it made sure that you were born at a time when smartphones existed so that you could be reading my philosophical responses.
It's almost as if you and I are special in some way, not because of what we do or who we are but simply because we're here talking about this issue. Perhaps even the universe itself was created for us to exist.
