What do you think about Chemical Elements?
I think the chemical elements are a great idea. A very useful way to group everything in the universe by their properties, and not just for humans but also for other animals such as ants or octopuses (if they exist). It is good that there exists an abstract system which classifies all things in one way or another.
When I think about the universe in general, and how life came into being, the chemical elements are a very important part of that. The building blocks of everything we see around us were there from near the beginning (if not at the beginning) because matter would have been created during whatever caused our Big Bang.
As we know, not all the chemical elements are equally common. For example most of the universe is made up out of hydrogen and helium, with only a small amount in everything else. That means that those other elements were created later than hydrogen and helium.
The reason that there are only a few chemical elements is because they couldn't have been created in the Big Bang. The laws of physics as we know them today say that only those lighter (easier to make) elements could be formed at such an event.
Some people think that the Big Bang started off with a very high density and temperature, which then decreased over time. If this was true, it would be possible to create heavier elements but not lighter ones.
I think this is a very interesting topic, and I recommend you to do some research on the Internet about it.
