What do you know about the moon?
The moon is a natural object, in the shape of a sphere. It revolves around a planet that we call Earth. The alignment of its rotation with its orbit means it sometimes does not appear to move at all.
Typically the side facing earth is illuminated and appears as a circle of illumination. The other half, which we do not see, is dark. As it rotates around the Earth we see slightly different shapes from night to night.
The moon is a rocky celestial object, about 1/4 the size of Earth and it orbits around the Earth at a mean distance of 384000km. It takes 27 days 7 hours 43 minutes to do so.
It is the only object of its kind in this solar system. Its gravity has a very slight effect on Earth tides.
The moon was once thought to emit light. This is not the case, however.
