Humans need to know that they are the product of their environment. They were born into a society where there was an excess supply of workers and, as such, they never had any motivation to make themselves valuable or learn how to do things. Instead, humans spend most of their time trying to gain status vis-a-vis others in order to increase their social standing so that they can win some form of approval from others.
