Hmmm, interesting topic. Here is my rather lengthy response:
Currently, it is impossible and more importantly undesirable to eliminate the human race. Unlike some people I do not believe that the entire human experience was an accident or a mistake, most certainly not in its entirety but perhaps on isolated occasions. In this respect I agree with certain religious views which teach us that we are all here for a reason and have something to contribute. As an example of my point: cats exist, they were created by God (whichever one you subscribe to) for a purpose which can include companionship, so let's say God made them specifically for humans; does this mean we should get rid of them? Or lions? Of course not! We need these creatures as much as they need us.
The fact is that there are many things we can learn from cats and other animals; they have evolved certain behaviours which make them more successful than humans. The same could be said of humans too, perhaps lions or chimpanzees would be a better example. If you look at Homo sapiens it is clear that we have developed to the detriment of all other species on this planet.
And yet we are here, and will continue to be so for many years. The only question which remains is whether or not this is a bad thing, and can it be changed? I believe the answer to both of these questions is yes.
I do not believe that the human race will be able to survive forever. I base this on the fact that no other species has managed to survive for so long, which is particularly surprising when you consider how much we are damaging our planet's ecosystem and there is only so much damage a creature can take before it finally gives up.
This is where my work becomes more speculative. In order to survive we must adapt, but as I mentioned earlier no other species has done this and it is not clear whether it can happen in the future either.
