The future of artificial super intelligence applications
I think the most important thing about creating Artificial Super Intelligence (as opposed to artificial intelligence) is how you define intelligence. I've been thinking about this since I read a book on the subject, and came across some interesting ideas. The first idea was that there are multiple types of intelligences in humans, so we might have different kinds of AI's with different types of intelligences.
One kind of intelligence is the so-called 'rational' intelligence, which is about reasoning and logic. We can call this type of intelligence 'logical'. Another type of intelligence could be called a 'creative' or 'emotional' intellect, which allows us to engage in imaginative thinking and emotional experiences.
A third type of intelligence could be called 'social', which is about communicating with others. A fourth kind of intelligence might be called 'physical', which allows us to interact with the world through our senses and body.
Modern artificial intelligence machines, such as the IBM Watson computer, have demonstrated logical intelligence. But they do not seem to possess very much 'creative' or 'social' intellect.
What the future holds for artificial intelligence is a question we can't answer yet. But I do have some ideas about what might happen.
Companies like Google are already applying the logical intelligence of artificial computers to their search engines. For example, a computer can look at your search query and give you a list of results that it thinks is relevant to what you want. But it cannot tell if any particular result is interesting or important, so often we have to click on a few links before we find the good stuff.
