the case against charity
I think that in this case the man is right to be angry and is not a bad person. The reason for this is because charity often can do more harm than good.
For example, imagine a poor man named Bob. He is homeless and has no place to stay. One day he finds out about the charity 'The Homeless Shelter' which helps those in need.
Bob goes to the shelter where he is accepted with open arms. He is given food, a place to sleep and medical treatment for injuries if needed.
Bob is very grateful and a couple of days later he goes back to the shelter and gives them another donation. When asked why, Bob replies: 'This place gave me everything I needed when I had nothing! How could I not return their kind gesture?' He also says that it makes him feel good knowing that he's done something for someone else in need.
Charity organizations often prey on the guilt of people. They make it seem like giving to them is a great deed that will ease your conscience, when in reality you are only making a donation.
Often times, by giving to charity you are helping someone who is already well off. Examples of this would be Oxfam, which advocates for farmers in developing countries but offers no help to Americans living below the poverty line.
