Furthermore, having one's own government be controlled by another country would make foreign policy difficult if not impossible to manage for a democratic state: How could any decisions made by said state be trustworthy if they were overseen by people from another land? It would also mean that all domestic policies which are supposed to serve the wellbeing of its citizens would be subject entirely to international influence; even though these policies may have been created with only domestic well-being in mind.
