Let's say that they have invented tachyons and can send information from the future to the past.
As I am a philosopher, and thinking is what I do best, let me begin by saying that the subject of future information coming to us from the past is quite intriguing. To begin with, can this be tested? For example, if we are given present-day knowledge about a coin toss in the future, will we be able to use that to profit now by betting on heads or tails when it happens?
I am not a physicist, so I cannot answer this. However, it seems possible that in the future they will discover methods by which information could be sent to us from the past. The laws of physics right now seem rather fixed and unchangeable. But we know that if we are given enough time and effort, things can change.
So it seems that if we do receive information from the past, it is possible that a physicist of the future will discover how to send this information back into our time. This makes me wonder about what happens in my own time-line. Should I not be able to see and understand things now because they are already determined?
It seems to me that if I can see something now, it is because my time-line has not been changed. If the future were going to change what I know about today's events, then they would have already done so.
So from this it seems like the future does not know everything about what is going to happen. The future is changing and becoming something new, and we can still see the present because our time-line has not yet been changed.
I am not sure if this is correct, but it certainly seems like this could be possible. However, let me say that in my opinion the future will never change what we know about the past.
