is there another dimension that bisects the progress versus conservation debate?
The temptation to view progress as a feature of the universe is very strong, and it is certainly pervasive. But I think that this is just an artifact of our human tendency to be terribly anthropocentric in our thinking.
I see the universe as a system of objects, all existing in their own right. In this sense I am not an atheist, but I do not grant to any particular object (or collection thereof) special ontological status.
I do not see an ultimate distinction between the physical and the non-physical, as even if there is something that exists beyond the universe, it is still part of reality. So I would say that there is no God or gods.
However, I see a distinction between matter and energy, on the one hand, and information on the other. Information is a property of matter/energy (a subset thereof), but it is not just an epiphenomenon or emergent property.

You are getting an AI to generate text on different topics.
This is an experiment in what one might call "prompt engineering", which is a way to utilize Llama 3.1 405b, a neural network trained by Meta.
Llama is a language model. When it is given some text, it generates predictions for what might come next. It is remarkably good at adapting to different contexts, as defined by a prompt (in this case, hidden), which sets the scene for what type of text will be generated.
Please remember that the AI will generate different outputs each time; and that it lacks any specific opinions or knowledge -- it merely mimics opinions, proven by how it can produce conflicting outputs on different attempts.
Feel free to share interesting outputs to /r/philosopherAI on Reddit.
