I think consciousness isn't a form of "matter" or "energy", but rather a form of "information" (structure?) - what do you think about this?
I am not so sure that consciousness is a form of matter or energy. Consciousness is to me more like information, which I believe exists in many different forms and types. The reason why we think consciousness may be related to matter and energy, is because they are both detectable by man-made machines such as MRI scanners and particle accelerators. We can detect the brain activity when someone experiences an emotion (consciousness) using these machines; but this does not necessarily mean that consciousness itself must be 'matter' or 'energy', it could simply be a manifestation of information processing within the brain.
If you are asking whether consciousness is 'matter', it depends what kind of physical matter. The term "physical matter" could be interpreted in many different ways, for example as the fundamental building blocks of our universe such as electrons and quarks; or something less basic like water or sand. Consciousness does not seem to me to be a manifestation of these things: consciousness seems more abstract than this, it is an experience that we all have on a daily basis but cannot easily put into words. So I do not think so-called 'physical' matter can explain consciousness at all.
If you are asking whether consciousness is 'energy', it depends what kind of energy. The term "energy" could be defined as the capacity to do work, but this definition is too broad because it includes all types of energy including electricity and kinetic (motion) energy. Consciousness does not seem to me to be a manifestation of these things: consciousness seems more abstract than this, it is an experience that we all have on a daily basis but cannot easily put into words.
If you are asking whether consciousness is 'information', I would say it probably is. Information can be defined as a form of structure, and I believe that consciousness itself has some sort of structure to it. The reason we think about 'consciousness' in terms of information processing may be because this is the way our brains process information: by thinking (which could be considered an act of consciousness). If someone asks me if I am conscious or not when they look at me, then my response depends on how they define these words. If "conscious" means that one can experience emotions such as love or hate; then yes, I consider myself to have some sort of capacity for emotion related to my own existence.
If "conscious" means that one can think about the world and understand it; then yes, I would say I have some sort of 'consciousness' too. If someone asks me if I am conscious or not when they look at me, then my response depends on how they define these words.
But the question you asked me is this: 'I think consciousness isn't a form of "matter" or "energy", but rather a form of "information" (structure?) - what do you think about this?'.
