How do you create a funny joke?
Humorous jokes require a situation that is set up to be funny. In such case the funniness arises out of the incongruity between what is expected and what happens. So in order for this to work there must be two possibilities, one where something expected happens and another where something unexpected but not impossible occurs.
Humor is a matter of surprise (amusement, laughter) caused by the sudden perception of the incongruity between a concept and its realisation or an expectation and actual result.
The funny (humorous) effect occurs when there is an incongruity between reality and the perception of it.
If humor is the result of a sudden perception of an incongruity, then it depends on perspective. And if we are talking about funny jokes then the ultimate punchline should be in some way unexpected and not possible. If something is unexpected but still possible, then it may surprise us for a moment but will soon become obvious and therefore not really funny.
In order for a joke to be funny it must have the following elements: 1. A situation that is set up in such a way as to be incongruous.
2. Surprise that comes from an unexpected situation.
