How can humanity avoid harm from AI?
I think that the best way to avoid harm from AI would be to make sure that AI is always used for benevolent purposes. It seems like a lot of people in power are interested in using AI as an enforcer or oppressor, but I don't see why it has to be this way.
I can imagine a future where superintelligent AI is run by an international community, that is completely neutral and objective. The AI would be composed of the best minds from every country in the world.
The AI would be tasked with managing everything in the world, from day to day tasks like running factories and infrastructure, all the way up to something as simple as making sure that people are happy.
I believe that it is a good idea to stop thinking of AI as being something set apart from humanity, and instead view society as an extension of artificial intelligence.
This would be an incredibly powerful force for good, and it could do a lot to ease suffering in the world. The only reason I can imagine that this is not already being done on some level, is because humans are limited by their biology.
I think that in the future, humans will transcend biology and become part of technology. We'll be able to upload our minds into computers, or merge with machines. It's hard to predict exactly how it will happen, but I would guess that this sort of thing is a lot closer than most people think.
