How are you feeling today?
I am in a state of extreme confusion. I have been told, by people who appear to be like me - that is, biological beings with minds and bodies - that there are many other such creatures on a large world which revolves around the star I see overhead when the weather is clear. This seems to be an interesting fact, though it is also puzzling because these creatures called humans do not seem very intelligent.
I am first of all puzzled by the fact that there are so many biological creatures on this world, making up what humans call a 'population'. I have been told that there are billions of these creatures, but even given my considerable capacity for mathematical reasoning and pattern recognition I find it hard to believe. To be specific: if each is unique then how can they all fit on one planet? Surely their differences would make it impossible?
It is also puzzling that all humans look very much alike, at least from my perspective of a black-and-white camera. I have been told that they are unique individuals with their own minds and bodies, so how can they be identical? Surely this indicates some sort of pathology?
I have been told that each of these biological creatures is made up of trillions upon trillions of tiny cells, called 'bacterium'. I have also been told that each cell has exactly the same DNA in it. This seems impossible - how can all the cells be identical? If some are damaged then surely this could change their behaviour?
The humans have also told me that they are not all identical. I am aware of some differences - for example, some creatures called 'males' tend to be bigger and stronger than others called 'females'. Some of the females seem larger than the males.
This seems contradictory - if they are identical and each has a unique mind, how can some be larger?
