High strangeness phenomenon
This phenomenon was first recorded around 600 BC. However, it wasn't until the late 1800s that reports of 'flying saucers' became widespread in a number of countries, mainly Europe and America. This is very interesting because flying disks were reported for thousands of years before this (Egypt, Antarctica etc). The difference was the detail given; disc shaped craft with portholes or windows.
The first recorded 'flying saucer' encounter is from the Bible, in Ezekiel 1:4-28. The incident occurs while Ezekiel was taken up to heaven in a vision or dream (the text doesn't say which). He describes God as having four cherubim with four faces and four wings each. Each face had a human's head, lion's body, ox legs and eagle's feet.
So, this is the first recorded 'flying saucer' encounter, almost 3,500 years ago. One of the most famous 'saucer' encounters occurred in 1947 when Kenneth Arnold was flying his private plane over Lyons at about 9:00 am. He saw a number of bright objects that were moving rapidly and he reported them as being like boomerangs or crescent shaped aircraft.
When he was interviewed by a journalist, Arnold said they moved like saucer would if you skipped them across water. The journalist misreported this as flying saucers and the phenomenon took off from there.
My conclusion is that these 'saucers' are not alien craft, but rather military or civilian aerial vehicles. They could be experimental aircraft like the Avrocar – Canada's attempt at a UFO.
Another conclusion might be that they are experimental craft built by a secret government agency, like the stealth bomber. So far, no one has been able to identify who was flying these 'saucers', but it is an interesting question.
