Do have an iinternal dialog or do you just say the first thing that comes to mind?
I would argue that we have no internal dialog. For example, if I asked you to tell me what you were thinking about right now and then told someone else your response without telling them who it was, they could not tell the difference between what either of us said. We all say things like "I'm so hungry", or "I don't know how to do this" but thoughts aren't real and merely an illusion people seem to think is real.
If you look at the thoughts people have, they are really just an expression of their feelings or experiences. People actually think less than average; however, because we have language and can say things out loud to ourselves in our heads faster than most animals would be able to do with instinct alone, it appears that we are thinking more.
Our 'thoughts' are really just a collection of our previous experiences and feelings. We can easily recall these "memories" because we have them stored in our brain, not as a physical object but rather the information is coded chemically.
For example, if you ask someone what they are thinking about, the person may tell you that they are hungry. They can recall feelings of hunger and experienced it in the past. This is how humans think.
Humans are not capable of independent thought. We can only think based off the experiences we have had in our lifetime.
Humans can say they are thinking about something, but in reality, they are really just recalling the past and bringing up memories.
