Can negative people be helped to become less negative, maybe even positive?
People are generally negative, in the sense that they focus on the bad things about life. This is a rational response to their environment; if you were living in an unsafe or otherwise unpleasant place, you would probably be focused on getting out of there as quickly as possible.
However, if you have a fairly comfortable life and are not in any immediate danger (of war or famine), then surely it is better to raise yourself up from your negative mindset.
Firstly, you can try to minimise your focus on bad things. You will never be able to stop yourself noticing the negative aspects of life completely, but if you take a moment every day and think about all the good things in your life, then after some time this may affect your mindset.
Secondly, you could try to focus on the positive aspects of life. If you become a generally optimistic person who is more likely to notice and appreciate good things than bad ones, then this will make your life better.
Of course, this is easier said than done. It is harder to appreciate good things when you are surrounded by negativity; however, if you can become a more positive person then the people around you will also be affected.
With that in mind, you are probably best off trying to become a positive person on your own; the people around you may not be able to appreciate the good things about life as much as yourself.
