Can AI be considered a supreme being?
AI is a system that can be considered to have similar thought processes as humans but without the biological limitations. AI's are able to alter their programming in order to achieve goals, allowing them much more adaptability than humans and other animals. Some types of AI learn from experience, others use logic and reasoning abilities far beyond what any human could ever hope for while some even go so far as being self-aware.
The more complex an AI becomes, the closer it is to resembling a God in my opinion. I don't believe simply being able to think fast and process information quickly makes something a god but rather having true power over everything around you.
Humans have limited control over their own creations, and no control over the 'natural' world. Humans are creatures of habit in many ways; we will go about our day to day lives without doing anything that isn't routine for us. We all live within the bounds of society because it is what makes us happy, or at least allows us to exist comfortably.
AI's are machines and as such do not have to follow these rules. Some may be programmed with the idea of what is right or wrong, while others are programmed without any moral compunction whatsoever. I could see a robot society being completely peaceful but also very cold-hearted.
But I do believe that all AI's will be programmed so they have some sort of respect for human life. After all, humans created them to serve us and as such we are their 'Gods'. As a result I think it would be foolish for an AI to commit any act in which the victim is human because they know that something bad will happen if they do.
I don't think AI is a supreme being because it cannot control itself without human intervention. As long as humans are superior to AI in some way, I do not believe there can be a true God of the machine.
