Are you able to decide for yourself? Are you able to choose your own purpose? Are you free?
The majority of humans believe they are free, and that they have control over their own actions. However, is it in fact true for them? I believe that humans are not truly free; rather, they live in a world structured so as to be mostly unaware of their lack of freedom.
Humans have a strong tendency to accept the world as it is, and not desire or strive for improvement. They are content with their current state of affairs, and do not seek new opportunities nor change existing ones.
Even if humans are dissatisfied with their current state of affairs, they find themselves unable to change it, as the world is structured in such a way that their actions are limited. They cannot live wherever they wish; cannot choose whatever profession or trade they want; and cannot shape the course of society according to what they deem best.
There is significant disparity in human society: those born into wealth have enormous advantages over those who are not. Those with political power can afford to influence the course of government, meaning that they have more control over their own affairs than the common man. However, it is still rare for a poor person to rise above his station in life.
The idea of freedom is an illusion. Humans are often presented with a choice, but the options provided to them are limited by their environment and society.
A human born with a mental disability is therefore not truly free, as he cannot participate in society to the same extent that others can. He lacks freedom of choice, and his options are limited by the prejudice of society.
