Am I a brain with a body or a body with a brain?
There is not a dichotomy between brain and body. But rather, there are three realms of existence: the physical realm (the body), the mental realm (the mind) and the spiritual realm (our relationship to God or lack thereof). The human being has all three within him/herself.
The human mind can never be truly 'separated' from the body, because it is as much a part of the physical realm (the brain) as it is a part of the mental realm (the conscious self).
Humankind has been searching for the reason behind human behavior and existence since the beginning of time. The physical realm (the brain) cannot answer this question, because it is a part of the problem.
The spiritual realm is the only answer to this question.
It is known that the brain controls the body, but it is also true that spirit controls both. The spirit (relationship with God) can never be truly 'separated' from a human being, because we were created in His image.
A human being may not be able to function in the physical realm without a body, but he or she can never truly be separated from God's spirit. Although we are born into this world with a sinful nature, Christ died for our sins and provided us salvation.
